Day 7 - Belize

Today we woke to Howler monkeys calling right outside our window!  There was a troop of at least eight monkeys, including two babies, in a tree in front of our cabin.  We visited with the landscaper (shown below with his machete, which he was using to cut down brush) and learned a bit about the nearby monkey troops and fun facts.  For example, Howler monkeys are smart and will poop or pee on your head if you stand under their tree.  This was actually also written on a sign about the monkeys in a national park we visited a couple days ago, so there must be some truth to it!

We visited Altun Ha, which is a Mayan site.  It did not involve as much hiking as Tikal, which made Nathan happy.

Evan’s favorite part of the day: climbing the Temple of the Sun God to get his picture taken.

Nathan’s favorite part of the day: hanging out with the monkeys.

  1. Nice picture of Evan at the Top of the Temple of the Sun God. Sure looks like a lot of steps to climb. Glad to hear that Nathan had a good time with the monkeys and didn't get any surprises from above. Love Oma

  2. The howler monkey pee story is correct... Happened to me just a few days ago! Luckily I was not quite directly underneath, though I was pretty close trying to get a good look at him! -Kates
