Belize - Day 2

Today was terrific!  Last night we stayed at the guesthouse of two documentary filmmakers who have been living in Belize at their own film studio for 30 years.  They have even won two Emmy awards.  This morning Richard entertained us with incredible stories from his travels around the globe filming wildlife.  (He shot the National Geographic film 'Anaconda', and told us how they caught the anacondas.  We were on the edge of our seats!)  Then he took us on a tour of their grounds and film studio.  We fed the crocodiles (two adults and two babies), fed a rescued margay cat and saw a couple others, and held a baby hicatee turtle, which is on the endangered species list.

We spent the afternoon cave tubing (innertubing on a river through a cave).  Mom didn't bring her camera because she didn't want it to get wet, but trust us, it was beautiful and so much fun!  We had a great guide who taught us all kinds of facts about Belize flora and fauna while we hiked to the cave.  He even opened a palm nut for us to try.  Before tubing, we swam in the river (and did so throughout the trip) and at the end we got to jump off rocks into the river.  What a great day!

Feeding the male crocodile (two the left of Richard in the blue shirt).

In case the croc in the picture above is too camouflaged, here he is zoomed in (in the same spot).

Zoom in to see the margay leaping to 'hunt' his chicken.
