Guatemala - Day 3

Dear Evan and Nathan,
Another great day!  We worked in the clinic in Gualan today.  The complex includes a PT clinic, nutrition center, orphanage/foster home, and senior center.  The nutrition center houses malnourished children and nourishes them until they are healthy enough to return to their families.  We saw 18 patients with a wide variety of injuries and ailments.  We saw patients with strokes, gun shot wounds, venous ulcers, soccer injuries, post-operative total knee replacements, head injuries, and more.  Whew!
I sure miss you guys!  Here are some pictures from today.
Love, Mom

The view from the nutrition center.

Danny and Lucas helped out this man who had a stroke.  There is a music group for kids that meets in the building next to the PT clinic.  While they were working with him, the kids started playing, "Eye of the Tiger" and all three of these guys really got into it.  They even did ankle pumps in time to the music.

We see a little bit of everything.

The end of another successful day!  Becca, on the right, is the full time physical therapist at this clinic in Gualan.

  1. Holly, great work today! I like the part about the children being nourished enough to return home. Is there any guidance given to the parents before they return home so there isn't a relapse?
    Luv ya, Pam
