Crater Lake

We had a great time at Crater Lake earlier this month.  What a beautiful place!  The lake is the clearest in the United States, the deepest in the United States (and in the top 10 in the world), and bluer than blue due to the lack of pollutants.

Wizard Island is the result of subsequent eruptions.  It is actually 2700 feet tall (reaching almost 7000 feet above sea level), but only 700 feet are above water.  We hiked up to a fire lookout for a great 365 degree view.

We played the license plate game and got all but 5 of the states plus several fun ones from Canada and even Switzerland, but the best was this polar bear license plate from the Northwest Territories.  The couple who owned this car were on a road trip after attending weddings in Vancouver and San Francisco.  They loved that we loved their license plate.

Hiking at the pinnacles.

We hiked down to the only location that you can get to the lake and swam as much as we could given the cold water temperature and huge waves.
